Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1989)

An unaired pilot which was shown to the management at KTMA with an introduction by none other than Joel Hodgson. This footage was captured at a Q&A at Archon 32 by Tarantulas in October of 2008.

Movie Plot: A submarine crew fight an underwater civilization. Host Segment I: The crew deals with the vacuflowers that grow on the satellite, which makes everyone that smells them obsessed.

Movie Plot: Aliens from Mars battle the Earth. Host Segment I: The crew does a skit about the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

Movie Plot: A fugitive alien and a pilot from earth fight a few interplanetary wars. Segment I: Crow tells his version of the first Thanksgiving. Segment II: Joel demonstrates numbchucks.

Movie Plot: Japanese monsters Gamera and Barugon fight each other. Intro: Joel explains the show's premise and plays a phone message from a viewer. Segment One: Joel plays more phone messages, some asking for more of the show and another asking them to show the movies unriffed. Segment Two: A caller asks for more chapstick (mispronunciation of 'slapstick'), so Joel and the 'bots promise to use more chapstick on the show. Segment Three: Crow gives a hygiene lesson. Segment Four: Servo and Crow make prank phone calls.

Movie Plot: The people of Japan deal with the monster named Gamera. Intro: Crow volunteers to be frozen as the SOL's Christmas tree. Segment One: Joel wonders if he should freeze Servo as a lawn ornament next Christmas. Segment Two: A caller asks why Godzilla hasn't appeared on the show. Callers are invited to take a Ted Turner survey. Segment Three: The crew debates the authenticity of the movie's monsters. Segment Four: Gypsy and Joel sing Christmas songs.

Movie Plot: Japanese monsters Gamera and Gaos fight each other. Intro: A caller complains about the Gamera movies, but Joel says that he doesn't choose the movies, the Mad Scientists do. Segment One: Servo hits puberty and gets a new deep voice. Segment Two: Gypsy wants new voice, but Joel convinces her keep the one she has. Segment Three: A young caller invites the crew to his birthday party. They can't go, but Servo's birthday greetings turn into a long rant. Segment Four: Servo talks about the upcoming new year.

Movie Plot: Japanese monster Gamera and another Gamera from the planet Zigra fight each other. Intro: Crow is unfrozen. Segment One: Dr. Forrester and Dr. Erhardt, the mad scientists holding Joel captive, taunt Joel. They invite him back to earth for an underwater experiment, but Joel declines. Segment Two: Joel is depressed so Cambot plays messages from viewers to cheer him up. Most of the calls are about Gypsy. Segment Three: The SOL crew talk about their New Year's Resolutions. They countdown the last seconds to midnight. Segment Four: The crew reviews the movie.

Movie Plot: Japanese monsters Gamera and Guiron fight each other. Intro: The Mads are out of bad movies, until Dr. Erhardt finds another Gamera movie. Segment One: Crow dreams that he is in control of the experiment and the Mads are forced to watch the movies. He keeps sending 'A Planet of the Apes Christmas'. Segment Two: Servo and Crow discuss dreams. Servo's is particularly disturbing. Segment Three: Joel tells the 'bots of his dreams, which include operating a crane and waiting in line for Metallica tickets. Segment Four: The crew sings about the Satellite of Love.

Movie Plot: Ants wage an attack against researchers in remote Arizona. Intro: The Mads sell Joel's car to raise $30,000. He then informs them that he had $30,000 hidden under the seats. Segment One: Joel tells Servo and Crow about Isaac Asimov's Rules of Robots. They don't agree. Segment Two: The crew discuss what they would do if they ever get back to Earth. Joel wants to turn off his water, which he had left running. Segment Three: The crew plays I Spy, which becomes a rendition of Wipeout. Segment Four: Joel makes Crow and Gypsy recite a new Robot Law.

Movie Plot: Lunar researchers look for minerals on a hostile planet. Intro: The Mads invent 1-D glasses. Dr. Erhardt can only see length. Segment One: Crow opens a barbershop. Segment Two: Servo unsuccessfully learns to fly. Segment Three: The bots help Joel with his taxes. Segment Four: The SOL crew plays football.

Movie plot: Astronauts probing an abandoned spaceship find a female clone whose planet is threatened by pollution and a dictatorship.

Intro: Dr. Forrester has returned from Vegas with gifts for Dr. Erhardt. Segment One: Joel tries to show that robots feel no pain. Segment Two: Gypsy catches a cold. Segment Three: The bots throw a limbo-fest. End: Servo and Crow read letters from viewers.

Movie Plot: Q, an evil presence, tries to conquer the world. Intro: The Mads try to find out how mad they really are. Segment One: The bots weld themselves together. Segment Two: The bots discuss the limits of humor. Segment Three: Joel is depressed when the 'bots don't want to play murderball with him. Segment Four: Crow and Joel read pro- and anti-Servo fan letters.

Movie Plot: A murderer is running around New Orleans during the Superbowl. Intro: The Mads are almost ready to bring the SOL back to earth, until Crow ruins everything. Segment One: Joel helps Servo experience pain. Segment Two: Joel becomes a tyrant. Segment Three: Servo remembers his favourite moments on the SOL. End: Joel finds Servo's letters and then reads letters of his own

This week's experiment is disastrous disaster film City on Fire (1979), which assures viewers the events depicted could happen in any city, anywhere. Even, as Tom points out, while we're watching this.

Adapted (i.e., shredded and stitched into incoherence) from the 1974 Japanese series Saru No Gundan, Time of the Apes follows the travails of a scientist and two small children who are accidentally frozen and thaw into a future ruled by apes. Meanwhile, Crow and Servo have locked Joel out of the Satellite of Love.

Movie Plot: The evil Sumuru and her minions try to conquer the world. Intro: The Mads help Joel back into the ship. Segment One: Joel punishes the 'bots for locking him out. Segment Two: The crew host a game show. Segment Three: The crew perform an acoustic version of the show's theme song. Segment Four: Joel announces that fan club membership has grown to 900.

Mad scientist Dr. Clayton Forrester figures he can rule the world if he deadens his subjects' brains by making them endure terrible movies. Exploiting his access to nearby satellite-dwellers Mike Nelson and his robot pals, Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo, Forrester makes them watch a cheesy 1950s spaceship film. But when Mike and friends make funny comments throughout the movie and others that follow it, Forrester's plan looks increasingly flimsy.

Assignment: Venezuela is a 1956 short film produced by the Creole Petroleum Corporation, created to encourage American employees to work at their location(s) in Venezuela. The short was riffed for the unproduced Mystery Science Theater 3000 CD-ROM. A rough cut of the short was screened for a live audience at ConventioCon ExpoFest-A-Rama 2: Electric Boogaloo.

An informational short featuring two enthusiastic teens who witness the amazing telephone technology of the time and speculation for the future. Originally aired with Episode 906: The Space Children, it was included with "Assignment: Venezuela" & "A Case of Spring Fever" in MST3K Volume 7 from Rhino Entertainment.

It was the non-Turkey Day version that was later used in reruns, other than this thanksgiving version being rerun once, accidentally. A ridiculously easy jailbreak, a woman who seems to be in a swimming pool when she's supposed to be drowning in a swamp, and endless stock footage of a bayou are three features of this cinematic torture instrument. An adventurer sets sail in search of the bird of happiness in Sadko. Crow has trouble with his own lifelong quest and the guys have a meeting of the Junior Jester Club.

Start with the The Deadly Bees, but set it in the deep, deep, deep south, replace the female pop singer with a male lead who's also blonde and only slightly less feminine, replace bees with worms, and that's about it. There are lots of worms in this movie, and possibly the best stinger line in series history ("You gonna be da worm face!") Unlike The Deadly Bees this movie has lots and lots of location shots. However they don't make the movie any better--only that much more sad and distressing. Like Roger Corman's films, the plot is revealed during extremely long stretches of exposition between disconnected bursts of action, making the film more of a slideshow than anything else. The hero isn't, the special effects aren't, and the plot revolves around the idea that a bunch of inbred hillbillies are too stupid to leave a dangerous situation (so at least the plot is somewhat plausible).

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Serial Variety Pack is a DVD bonus disc made available to early purchasers of Mystery Science Theater 3000: Volume XXVII directly from Shout! Factory. It was released alongside Volume XXVII on July 27, 2013. The disc features all of the theater segments from the serials The Phantom Creeps and Undersea Kingdom, as well as the TV series General Hospital.

Radar Men from the Moon is a 12-part serial produced by Republic Pictures in 1952. It was directed by Fred C. Brannon and features George Wallace as the hero Commando Cody. The first nine installments of the serial feature throughout Season 1 of Mystery Science Theater 3000, although the ninth installment appears truncated, apparently cut for time. On the SOL, Servo and crow host "The Dead Talk Back" radio show, the crew dresses as the Grateful Dead, and the crew is interrogated by Dr. Forrester, but he is interrupted when Frank confesses.
